From the early 1990s, the African Great Lakes region has been the scene of a series of overlapping traumas which have profoundly disrupted its geopolitical, economic, social and demographic stability. Despite numerous peace accords, local political compromises and various international interventions, it has yet to find stability. Tensions regularly re-ignite into mortal hatred and violence. Understanding the genealogy and history of these forms of impassioned violence is the central thrust of this volume.
