This is the first encyclopaedia devoted to English language school stories. Edited by Rosemary Auchmuty and Joy Wotton, it covers both girls' and boys' school stories, their histories, critical reception, authors, topics and critical analyses of the works themselves, together with bibliographical details of all British, Canadian and Australasian examples of the genres known to the editorial team, and of writing about school stories and their authors. The encyclopaedia is pioneering in that it covers both girls' and boys' stories in equal depth, presenting new biographical information for many authors. In the case of those authors who have received some critical attention in the past, previously published errors and omissions have been corrected. Many bibliographies, even of recognized writers, are here presented for the first time complete.
