Martin M. Antony, PhD, ABPP , is professor and graduate program director in the Department of Psychology at Ryerson University in Toronto. He is also director of research at the Anxiety Treatment and Research Centre at St. Joseph's Healthcare in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and past president of the Canadian Psychological Association. He was founding director of both the Anxiety Treatment and Research Centre and the Psychology Residency Program at St. Joseph's Healthcare. He was also a psychologist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto and assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Toronto. Dr.


Antony received his PhD in clinical psychology from the University at Albany, State University of New York, in 1994, and completed his internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He has published 28 books, including a variety of evidence-based self-help manuals (e.g., Anti-Anxiety Workbook; Shyness and Social Anxiety Workbook [2nd ed.]; When Perfect Isn't Good Enough [2nd ed.]), clinical guides to assessment and treatment (e.g., Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy in Groups; Phobic Disorders and Panic in Adults ), and research texts (e.


g., Obsessive Compulsive Disorder; Oxford Handbook of Anxiety and Related Disorders ). In addition, Dr. Antony has published more than 150 scientific articles and book chapters in the areas of cognitive-behavioral therapy, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, social phobia, specific phobia, perfectionism, and related topics. Dr. Antony has received career awards from the Society of Clinical Psychology (APA Division 12), the Canadian Psychological Association, and the Anxiety Disorders Association of America and is a fellow of the American and Canadian Psychological Associations. He has also served on the boards of directors for the Society of Clinical Psychology and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and as program chair for past conventions of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and the Anxiety Disorders Association of America. Dr.


Antony also served as an advisor to the DSM-IV Text Revision Work Group for Anxiety Disorders. Lizabeth Roemer, PhD , is a professor of psychology at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where she is actively involved in research and clinical training of doctoral students in clinical psychology. Dr. Roemer received her BA from Northwestern University and her MS and PhD from the Pennsylvania State University and completed her internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the National Center for PTSD at the Boston Veterans Affairs Healthcare System. In collaboration with Dr. Susan Orsillo, Dr. Roemer has developed an acceptance-based behavior therapy for generalized anxiety disorder and is currently examining its efficacy and mediators and moderators of change in a study funded by the National Institute of Mental Health. She and Dr.


Orsillo coauthored the clinical guide Mindfulness and Acceptance-Based Behavioral Therapies in Practice , as well as the evidence-based self-help guide T he Mindful Way Through Anxiety: Breaking Free From Worry and Reclaiming Your Life ; coedited the research text Acceptance and Mindfulness-Based Approaches to Anxiety: New Directions in Conceptualization and Treatment ; and regularly present workshops on acceptance-based behavior therapies. In addition, Dr. Roemer has published more than 70 journal articles and book chapters in the areas of behavior therapy, generalized anxiety disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, mindfulness, experiential avoidance, emotion regulation, and related areas.
