Margaret L. Andersen is the Edward F. and Elizabeth Goodman Rosenberg Professor Emerita at the University of Delaware where she has also served as Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Diversity, Executive Director of the President's Diversity Initiative and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Andersen has published numerous books and articles, including RACE IN SOCIETY: THE ENDURING AMERICAN DILEMMA (Rowman and Littlefield, 2017); THINKING ABOUT WOMEN: SOCIOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVES ON SEX AND GENDER, 11th (Pearson, 2019); RACE AND ETHNICITY IN SOCIETY: THE CHANGING LANDSCAPE, 4th (edited with Elizabeth Higginbotham; Cengage, 2016); ON LAND AND ON SEA: A CENTURY OF WOMEN IN THE ROSENFELD COLLECTION (Mystic Seaport Museum, 2007); LIVING ART: THE LIFE OF PAUL R. JONES, AFRICAN AMERICAN ART COLLECTOR (University of Delaware Press, 2009); and SOCIOLOGY: THE ESSENTIALS, 10th (co-authored with Howard F. Taylor; Cengage, 2019). In addition to two teaching awards from the University of Delaware, Dr.
Andersen received the American Sociological Association's Jessie Bernard Award for expanding the horizons of sociology to include the study of women and the Eastern Sociological Society's Merit Award and Robin Williams Lecturer Award. She is a past vice president of the American Sociological Association and past president of the Eastern Sociological Society. After earning her B.A. from Georgia State University, she earned an M.A. and a Ph.D.
from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
