This text covers the various designs of tanks and armoured fighting vehicles in current use in the war in Ukraine. These include original Soviet equipment like the T-72 and T-80 plus newer designs such as the T-90. Russia has large stocks of armour as a legacy of the Soviet Union. However, many are older modes stored in poor conditions. The tank design team at state manufacturers Uralvagonzavod have produced modern designs such as the T-14 Armata, however, the forces deployed in Ukraine still rely heavily on older equipments such as the T-72B3. The conflict has also exposed the vulnerability of Russian armour to NATO-supplied anti-tank weapons, from countries including the UK. This has led to heavy losses while many armoured vehicles have simply been abandoned due to poor morale and logistics.
