John R. Fanchi is a Professor in the Department of Engineering and Energy Institute at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. He holds the Ross B. Matthews Chair of Petroleum Engineering and teaches courses in energy and engineering. Before this appointment, he taught petroleum and energy engineering courses at the Colorado School of Mines and worked in the technology centers of four energy companies (Chevron, Marathon, Cities Service and Getty). He is a Distinguished Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and authored numerous books, including Integrated Reservoir Asset Management, Energy: Technology and Directions for the Future, Shared Earth Modeling, and Integrated Flow Modeling, all published with Elsevier. Wilson Chin is currently President and Founder of Stratamagnetic Software, LLC. Started in 1999, his company develops scientific models for oil and gas exploration and production clients such as Baker Hughes, CNPC, Halliburton, Schlumberger, and the US Department of Energy.


Previously, he worked for Halliburton, BP, Schlumberger and Boeing. He has published 13 books focused on reservoir engineering, formation evaluation, sensor design, drilling, and computational methods. He was also recently a Consultant for GE Oil and Gas MWD design. Wilson has also taught at the University of Houston as an Adjunct Professor and has earned awards and partnerships through the US Department of Energy as well as over 70 patents. Wilson has authored multiple conference papers and journal articles. He earned a B.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering and Applied Math from New York University, a M.


Sc. in Aerospace Engineering from California Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in Physics, Math, and Aerospace from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Tarek Ahmed, Ph.D., P.E.


, is currently Founder of Tarek Ahmed and Associates, Ltd., a consulting firm that specializes in in-house petroleum engineering courses and consulting services worldwide. Prior to that, he was a Reservoir Engineering Advisor for Anadarko, Baker Hughes, and Gaffney, Cline and Associates and was a Professor and head of the Petroleum Engineering Department at Montana Tech of the University of Montana for 22 years. He earned his PhD from University of Oklahoma, his Masters from the University of Missouri-Rolla, and a BS from the Faculty of Petroleum in Egypt - all degrees in petroleum engineering. Dr. Ahmed has authored numerous papers and several successful books with Elsevier, including Reservoir Engineering Handbook, 4th Edition.
