The Persians is the earliest surviving Aeschylus play. The plot is loosely based on his experiences at the Battle of Salamis. However, it tells of the aftermath of the battle from the Persian perspective. In this play, Aeschylus focuses on hubris, an idea that will feed many future tragedies Greek and otherwise.
