Physicians are faced with many challenges in our current health care culture. These challenges impact their relationships, social life, family life, job satisfaction, and ultimately impact how they interact with the patients they care for. The tremendous amount of stress physician's face is leading to a shortage of physicians in certain specialties, and in many areas of the country. Approximately 400 physicians commit suicide every year in the United States, which is only exacerbating the problem. This book will shed light on some of the current challenges that physicians face, and help the public understand them. It will also help potential applicants to medical schools understand what it takes to become a physician. We need passionate physicians who understand the complexities of the current system, and who are dedicated to care for their patients in the midst of the current challenges. We also need our patients to work with us to change the healthcare system, so we can stop losing physicians and continue to attract the best of the best to the profession.
