In 1985, the United States Congress authorized the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) to create the National Center for Prosecution of Child Abuse (NCPCA). NCPCA was created to provide quality training, technical assistance, and support to prosecutors, investigators, and allied professionals working on some of the most challenging cases: crimes against children. For more than a quarter century, NCPCA has been a central resource for improving national, state, local, and institutional responses to child physical and sexual abuse, child homicide, and criminal neglect. During this time, NCPCA's attorneys have traveled to all 50 states, several territories, and foreign countries, assisting child abuse prevention professionals. The fourth edition of Investigation and Prosecution of Child Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation has been revised to reflect changes to the law and advances in the understanding of the special dynamics associated with sensitive cases. This edition has also been expanded to include several new topics, including the investigation and prosecution of abusive head trauma, technology-facilitated crimes against children, child sexual exploitation, sex trafficking of minors, and the role of child protective workers in child maltreatment cases. Investigation and Prosecution of Child Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation is a comprehensive guide for multidisciplinary team members, handling these difficult cases. The manual contains case-law as well as medical, psychological, and other cutting-edge research along with practical tools frontline professionals can use on a daily basis.
