This book will show to create robust, maintainable and dynamically updated scorecards and dashboards using Microsoft Reporting Services. No other book covers both scorecards and dashboards with Reporting Services. The chapters in Section 1 cover performance management methods and metrics, and show how to gather business requirements and define project scope. This section is geared towards executives, managers and report developers. Section 2 introduces techniques for developing and delivering both a Dashboard and Balanced Scorecard using Reporting Services. This section assumes only limited Reporting Services knowledge as the reader is walked through building a progressively more advanced solution. Topics covered: Chapter 4 shows how to build a simple dashboard and balanced scorecard. The examples introduce important Reporting Service features and objects including: Reports, Data Sources, Data Sets, Tables and Matrixes.
Chapter 5 introduces techniques to enhance the dashboard and scorecard built previously. Topics include advanced formatting controls & labels, paging and conditional formatting. Chapter 6 introduces the skills necessary to make Reporting Services dashboards and scorecards interactive. Sorting, Filtering, Parameterization and Report Drill-through will all be covered. Chapter 7 covers the visual aspect of dashboards and scorecards in Reporting Services. Topics include charts, gauges, sparklines, graphs & map integration. The reader will also be introduced to more advanced topics such as customizing visual elements, setting thresholds and alerting. Chapter 8 shows how to design and implement dashboards and scorecards in Reporting Services for mobile devices.
Chapter 9 shows how to use customized code for specialized applications. Chapter 10 covers publishing and deploying the reader's dashboard and scorecard. Administration, security, scheduling and subscriptions will all be discussed. The third section shows how to apply the techniques introduced in Section 2 to build solutions for specific business applications, including: Chapter 11 shows how to design and implement a dashboard for a Retail Sales scenario. Chapter 12: a process & strategy map for a Manufacturing scenario. Chapter 13: a balanced scorecard for an Advertising & Marketing Scenario.
