An analysis of the continuuing influence of hierarchical caste in what is called 'barbaric Bihar' in India, this book dissects and portrays the private caste armies of Hindus and the phenomenon of politicization of caste massacres. The author argues that these caste armies have emerged as a surrogate arm of the state.
